Play assignment – unique abilities
UNIQUE ABILITY
Send an email or letter to 8-10 people whose opinions you respect and who know you well. These people can be friends, family members, colleagues, classmates – anyone who has been in a position to see you demonstrate your abilities over time.
It’s best to paraphrase or change the letter to reflect your own voice so it sounds like you, but make sure you include the essential question ‘What do you see as my Unique Ability?’ It’s also important to include a deadline in your letter, as undated tasks have a way of slipping down – and off – people’s to do lists.
Dear Chris
I am doing a career change programme, one of the concepts we are working with is ‘Unique Ability’ the idea that everyone possesses a unique combination of talents, interests and capabilities.
I’d really appreciate it if you would help me identify my own Unique Ability by considering the following question and sending me back an answer: ‘What do you see as my Unique Ability?’
By this I mean my talents and abilities, characteristics that describe me, what I’m good at, how I do things, what you count on me for, and any other distinguishing features you see about who I am.
I’d be very grateful if you could respond by (DEADLINE) and that you can help me with this. Thanks for your support, I really appreciate it.
